I. POLICY:

   Local fire stations will maintain the station and its
   equipment as specified by NFPA and manufacturer’s standards.

II. APPLICABILITY:

   State Institutions designated by the GDC to operate a fire
   station.

III. RELATED DIRECTIVES:

   A. GDC Rule 125-2-2.01 (b); 1986 Georgia General Assembly
      H.B. 6l8.

   B. CAC/ACA Standards 2-2106, 2-4164, 2-5151; National Fire
      Protection Association Life Safety Codes 1949, 1967,
      1976, 1981 & 1985, Ga. Code Title 8, Building & Housing

VI. PROCEDURE:

   A. The fire station and fire equipment will be maintained in
      a clean, orderly, operable condition. The Station Chief
      will inspect and maintain the station and equipment in
      compliance with standards mandated by Georgia law (H.B.
      618) and GDC.

B. The Station Chief or his designee will routinely conduct
   the following inspections/checks of the fire related
   equipment.

   1. Fire apparatus will be checked daily and the
      apparatus check sheet completed. (This check sheet
      will be reviewed during the quarterly inspection of
      the station.)

   2. All hoses will be tested at a minimum of once per
      year.

   3. Fire hydrants will be tested, serviced and painted
      once per year.

   4. All pumpers of 500 GPM capacity or greater will have
      a pump service test conducted once per year.

   5. These inspections/tests will be documented and
      reported to the GDC Fire Services Manager via GDC
      District Chief at the end of each fiscal year (June
      30 [th] ).

C. The Station Chief will establish a preventive maintenance
   program and schedule for all fire apparatus/equipment and
   will conduct preventive maintenance once per month or as
   required/mandated in the appropriate system’s operational
   manual.

D. These records will be reviewed during inspection of the
   fire station by the GDC District Chief.
