A Washington state prison inmate, Luis Alfonso Ramirez, has been indicted for allegedly directing a major fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking network from inside Georgia’s Washington State Prison using contraband cellphones, according to federal prosecutors. Six accomplices were also charged in the conspiracy, which spanned multiple Georgia counties and led to the seizure of 35 kilograms of methamphetamine and 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl valued at $225,000, along with $145,000 in cash. Ramirez, who is serving a sentence through 2033 and has a criminal history in Georgia dating to 2005, faces life in prison if convicted. The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Georgia Department of Corrections and other agencies.
