Only feed ingredients considered to be\n of quality acceptable for processing into feed\n rations will be received. All others will be\n refused.\n\n 3. Feed ingredients such as corn, soybean meal, peanut\n hulls, etc. will be accurately weighed upon receipt,\n with weight recorded on scale ticket.\n\nB. Inventory and Record Keeping:\n\n 1. A complete inventory of all feed ingredients on hand\n is to be consistently maintained.\n\n 2. Monthly report of all inventory and feed\n distribution is submitted each month using Monthly\n Feed Mill Operations Report (Attachment 1). This\n form is to be completed as follows:\n\n a. Column 1: Tons of feed, minerals, etc., on hand\n at the beginning of the relevant month are\n listed by separate ingredient. Amount should\n always agree with ending inventory from the\n previous month. Any discrepancies should be\n explained on the form.\n\n b. Column 2: Feed ingredients received from\n vendors during the month should be totaled by\n ingredient.\n\n c. Column 3: If any feed is received from\n institutional farms during the month, the entry\n should be made beside the correct type.\n\n d. Column 4: Tons on hand at end of month are\n listed by ingredient.\n\n e. Column 5: Spoilage and Waste--all spoilage and\n waste is to be reported and explained.\n\n f. Column 6: Usage in Tons for Month--determined\n from records of actual usage during the month.\n\n g. Processing of feed ingredients into livestock\n rations is conducted under the following procedures:\n\n a. Feed is mixed according to specifications\n established by nutrition specialists.\n\n b. Medications that are incorporated into\n livestock rations are analyzed three times each\n year if the medication being used is subject to\n federal guidelines and once each year if there\n is no federal guideline for that specific\n medication.\n\n c. Accurate records are kept regarding the amount\n and kinds of medications mixed into livestock\n rations. The bin number where rations\n containing these medications are stored must be\n included in these records.\n\nD. Testing of Livestock Feed:\n\n 1. Corn is analyzed for the presence of alfatoxin at\n the feedmill site. Samples are submitted to the\n state-testing laboratory for complete analysis on a\n periodic basis.\n\n 2. Laboratory analysis for nutrient content of rations\n will be conducted a minimum of four times per year.\n\nE. Personnel:\n\n 1. Overall feedmill operation is under the direction of\n the institutional farm manager.\n\n 2. Feedmill supervisor is responsible for daily\n feedmill operations.\n\nF. Security:\n\n 1. All feedmill staff in non-security positions shall\n be acutely aware of the need for inmate security at\n all times and shall support correctional officers in\n security-related functions if it is necessary for\n the maintenance of security. Said staff shall also\n observe all facility rules concerning security in\n all contexts, and shall seek clarification from\n supervisors or correctional officers when in doubt\n concerning some security aspect of the farm\n operation.\n\nG. Samples:\n\n 1. Finish feed product samples will be taken quarterly\n and sent to laboratory to be tested to assure feed\n ingredient requirements are being met.\n\nH. Corn Test:\n\n 1. Alfatoxin test will be pulled on all corn received,\n farm grown or purchased.\n\n 2. Alfatoxin levels should be in the acceptable range\n for its intended use.\n\n 3. Inventory adjustments are to be noted using\n (Attachment 2) and submitted to the State Farm\n Administrator\u2019s office with monthly feedmill report.\n The Farm Manager must sign the adjustment forms.\n\nI. Inventory Adjustments:\n\n 1. It is the farm managers\u2019 responsibility to insure\n that an accurate inventory is maintained on all feed\n ingredients.\n\n 2. Inventory adjustments required to offset shrinkage\n and waste will be made as follows:\n\n a. It will be the responsibility of all farm staff to\n monitor farm operations on a daily basis to insure\n the safety of both the staff and inmates assigned to\n this work area.\n\nVII. RETENTION SCHEDULE:\n\n Attachments 1 and 2 of this SOP will be kept locally for three\n years, one year in an active file and two years inactive.
