Georgia Prisoners’ Speak (“GPS,” “we,” “us”) is the public name of the GDC Accountability Project, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Georgia. These terms cover gps.press and the services we run with it, including our tools, our public data service at data.gps.press, our newsletter, and the GPS Reports videos we post on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. By using them, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use them.
Our reporting is information, not advice
We report on Georgia’s prisons using public records, official data and accounts from people inside and outside them. Nothing on GPS is legal, medical or financial advice. If you or someone you love faces a legal decision, talk to a lawyer. Our guides explain how things work. They aren’t a substitute for someone who knows your case.
Accuracy and corrections
We work to get every fact right, and we show our sources. Records change, and we sometimes get things wrong. If you see an error, tell us through our Contact page and we’ll look at it. How we handle corrections is set out in our Editorial Standards and Ethics.
Our tools
Some GPS tools, such as Lighthouse, Site Search and Parole Builder, answer questions automatically from our published work and public records. Their answers can be incomplete or out of date. Check the sources they point to before relying on an answer, and don’t treat an answer as legal advice.
Sharing our work
Anyone may share and republish our articles, data and videos, in full or in part, as long as you credit Georgia Prisoners’ Speak and link back to the original on gps.press. Please don’t change facts or quotes, and don’t present our work as your own. Public records we publish remain public records. Material we didn’t create, such as photos or documents from other sources, belongs to its owners.
What you send us
When you send us a report, a story, a letter, documents or a message, you’re telling us it’s true to the best of your knowledge, and that you have the right to share it. You give us permission to read it, verify it, store it, and use it in our reporting, in line with our Privacy Policy. We decide what we publish and may edit or decline anything. How we protect sources and contributors is set out in the Privacy Policy, and that protection comes first.
Using GPS fairly
Please don’t:
- try to break into, overload or disrupt our site, tools or data service;
- collect our content automatically in a way that ignores our rate limits or our robots.txt;
- use our work to harass, threaten or expose anyone, including people named in public records;
- pretend to be GPS or to speak for us.
We may block access for anyone who does.
Videos and social media
GPS Reports videos are based on our published articles, and the facts in them come from those articles. They may use computer-generated presenters, voices and illustrations, and the platforms label them that way. When you watch our videos on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram, those platforms’ own terms and privacy policies also apply. These include YouTube’s Terms of Service and Google’s Privacy Policy.
Links to other sites
We link to court records, agency sites and other sources. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content.
No warranties
We provide GPS as it is. We do our best to keep it accurate and available, but we can’t promise that it will always be complete, current or error-free, or that it will always be online.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, the GDC Accountability Project, Inc. isn’t liable for any loss that comes from using, or being unable to use, our site, tools, data or videos.
Georgia law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top. If you keep using GPS after a change, you accept the new terms.
