A woman held at Pulaski State Prison died of tuberculosis, GDC confirmed on October 23. Word of a TB death had been circulating among families since at least October 13. GDC has not said how many people have tested positive at Pulaski or McRae.
GDC's own policy, SOP 507.04.54, requires a mask and immediate separation from the general population when TB is suspected, and transport to Augusta State Medical Prison. Families describe women asking for masks and being turned away, and women who tested positive returning to the same dorm. The two accounts don't line up. Only the records can show which one holds.
