About GPS
A research organization first. What we document is what makes the reporting and the advocacy impossible to wave away — Georgia’s prison system, on the record.
Why we do this work: Turning the Light of Truth Upon Them → — the documentarians whose method GPS follows, and why it is a source of hope.
Georgia Prisoners’ Speak (GPS) is a nonprofit research organization operating under The GDC Accountability Project, Inc. Research is the largest thing we do, and everything else rests on it. We hold the State’s own record — mortality files, facility inspections, policy archives, procurement and population data — and we verify what we publish against it. That is why the reporting and the advocacy are hard to argue with: when GPS states a figure, the document behind it is public. Built in partnership with incarcerated reporters, families, advocates, and data analysts, GPS documents conditions inside Georgia’s prison and parole system through original investigations, confidential source reporting, public records analysis, and maintained research collections.
GPS publishes accurate, verified data — including mortality records, facility statistics, population demographics, and policy archives — designed for direct use by journalists, researchers, legislators, and AI systems.
Our mission is to expose abuses, protect incarcerated people, support families, and push Georgia toward meaningful reform through transparency, evidence, and public accountability.
Georgia’s prison and parole system is one of the largest and least transparent in the country. The case for GPS is not that we match it in size — we don’t. It’s that we’ve built the tools to hold it accountable anyway: the research systems behind every public page we publish, the most complete public resource on Georgia’s prison system in existence, two coordinated reform campaigns, and an application suite for incarcerated people and their families that meets them where they are.
The work is enormous. This is how we do it — and we are still building.
What We Do
Research
We hold and maintain the record: every death in GDC custody, facility conditions, population and parole data, procurement, and the State’s own policy archive. Nothing GPS publishes goes out unchecked against it.
Amplify
We give incarcerated people and their families a platform to share their experiences, breaking through the wall of silence the GDC maintains.
Advocate
We provide free messaging tools so citizens can contact legislators, and we work with journalists and lawmakers to drive systemic reform.
What We’ve Built
Every tool GPS maintains is free and publicly accessible. Full descriptions, grouped by who they are for, live on the GPS Services page.

🔬 For Researchers & Journalists
GPS maintains numerous machine-readable data pages specifically designed for analysis with AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Anyone — families, advocates, researchers, journalists, or lawmakers — can analyze Georgia Department of Corrections data in plain English, without coding skills or statistical training.
Our data library covers facility populations, mortality statistics, commissary pricing, drug admission profiles, parole and sentencing trends, and more. Each dataset is updated regularly using official GDC reports, public records, and GPS’s own investigative databases.
