An inmate was killed and numerous others were injured in a Sept. 3 fight at Wilcox State Prison in Georgia, which the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) reported as gang-related. Seven inmates were taken to hospitals, including two who were airlifted, while two others with minor injuries were treated on-site; no staff were injured. The deceased inmate, Maurice Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death. Brown was serving a 25-year sentence for a Fulton County kidnapping conviction, with a maximum release date of 2034. The prison has been placed on lockdown until further notice, according to GDC officials.
