WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — The inmates involved in Sunday’s deadly brawl at Washington State Prison were believed to be involved with gang activity, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Corrections.
The GDC said Ahmod Hatcher, 23, Jimmy Trammell, 42, and Teddy Jackson, 27, all died after a fight broke out at Washington State Prison around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The press release said staff tried to clear the visitation area after the altercation started, but several injured inmates were able to enter the visitation area during the chaos.
No visitors were injured during the brawl, according to the press release, and the disturbance was “under control” by around 3:00 p.m.
The GDC said 14 additional people – 13 inmates and one correctional officer – were injured during the fight.
Hatcher was serving 20 years for aggravated assault in Richmond County, per the GDC. Trammell was serving 20 years for first degree burglary in Fulton County and was due for release in 10 days, and Jackson was serving 10 years for aggravated assault in Bibb County.
The GDC said that Washington State Prison is currently on lockdown, and the fight remains under investigation.
