SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Two inmates died on the same day at Coastal State Prison last week, WTOC has learned.
The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) confirmed to WTOC that Aiden Snapp and Anteveis Deon both died on Feb. 26.
A GDC spokesperson said there were no reports or signs of an altercation surrounding Deon’s death, but did not make the same statement about Snapp’s death.
Snapp was serving a 20-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in DeKalb County, while Deon was serving a 10-year sentence for forgery out of Bulloch County.

Investigations underway
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting autopsies for both men. A GDC spokesperson said both deaths are being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards.
Including the two deaths on Feb. 26, four inmates died at Coastal State Prison in February. Inmates Malik Ortiz and DeJarvis Walker both died the week of February 8th.
A 2024 U.S. Department of Justice investigation found Georgia prisons, including Coastal State, are failing to protect inmates from violence, neglect, and unconstitutional conditions. The DOJ concluded the Georgia Department of Corrections violates the 8th Amendment by failing to protect inmates from violence and failing to provide reasonably safe conditions. Two employees and an inmate inside Coastal State told WTOC Investigates those failures are happening in Savannah.
