Gender Care State Funding Ban
Prevents taxpayer dollars from covering gender-affirming care under the state health benefit plan, Medicaid, and in prisons. Authored by Lt. Gov. candidate Blake Tillery. Withdrawn in House; SB 185 passed instead. GPS opposes.
What This Bill Does
SB 39 prohibits the use of state funds for gender-affirming care, broadly cutting off public funding for hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and surgical procedures related to gender transition.
GPS opposes this bill because it interferes with medical decisions between patients and their healthcare providers, and specifically harms incarcerated individuals who rely entirely on state-funded healthcare. The bill politicizes medical care and overrides the judgment of qualified medical professionals in favor of legislative ideology.
