Most of Georgia’s state prisons were placed on lockdown Thursday morning due to a security threat, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. The department said four inmates were involved in what officials believe was a gang-related fight Tuesday at Hays State Prison in Chattooga County; three were taken to a hospital and later returned to the prison. Officials locked down other facilities “out of an abundance of caution” over concerns about retaliation, and the department said the lockdown will continue until further notice with security threat assessments conducted intermittently as investigations continue. The listed facilities include Hays, Hancock, Augusta State Medical Prison, Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison, and numerous other state prisons and correctional facilities.
