Long Unit (2024–present, Correctional Assistant Superintendent) On the morning of February 13, 2024, inmate Cameron Ryan Paquette collapsed while on a GDC work detail at the Ben Park / Bill Morris Park complex in Long County. He was last seen alive at 5:55 a.m. by supervising officer C/O Dallas Dick. A fellow officer and another inmate immediately began CPR, and 911 was called. Wayne EMS transported Paquette to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. by Dr. Gerald Filmore. An autopsy conducted by the GBI’s Dr. Atkinson (exam dated February 15, 2024) and confirmed in writing by GBI Death Investigation Specialist Heather Brown on September 11, 2025, listed the cause of death as hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease; the manner was natural. The GDC investigator on the scene was Curtis McMichael, according to the coroner’s report obtained by GPS via an open-records request to the Long County Coroner.
