Wilcox State Prison — Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, from March 16, 2026
Three deaths are attributed to Jackson’s tenure at Wilcox. On March 16, 2026 — the same day her listed deputy warden tenure begins — Earnest Sims, 44, died. A Wilcox County coroner record, Coroner Janice B. Brown, case 2026-0316-15, states the manner remained pending as of July 5, 2026, with the documented cause pending investigation; the record notes “smoking strips” and seizure onset and lists an autopsy as yes. The death occurred in an open dorm, per the coroner record. Gary Dwayne Felver, 65, died June 15, 2026; GPS records list that death under cause category 6 with no additional notes. On Sept. 3, 2026, Maurice Antonio Brown died after a fight at Wilcox State Prison that GDC reported as gang-related, according to GPS records. The fight sent seven inmates to hospitals, including two who were airlifted, while two others with minor injuries were treated on-site; no staff were injured. Brown’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an official cause of death, and the GDC Office of Professional Standards opened an investigation. GPS records note that GDC confirmed Brown’s death to 13WMAZ and 41NBC on Sept. 4, 2026, and that Wilcox State Prison was placed on lockdown until further notice. The death record lists Brown as born in 1990, serving a 25-year sentence for a Fulton County kidnapping conviction, with a maximum release date of June 10, 2034, and in custody since Dec. 2, 2009.
During Jackson’s tenure, GPS records also logged facility-level allegations at Wilcox. An AI-detected Telegram relay dated April 2, 2026, alleged multiple stabbings there and a resulting lockdown. A May 12, 2026 public Facebook post alleged that under Warden Micheal Thomas the prison locked down inmate movement during senior staff gatherings and that basic inmate supplies had lapsed for roughly a year. GPS records also include an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that the U.S. Department of Justice found Georgia’s gang-run prisons riddled with regular violence and sexual assault, and that hundreds of GDC employees were arrested and fired for smuggling drugs and other contraband — a statewide pattern referenced in the same intelligence file.
