What Happened on Their Watch
Coastal State Prison — Unit Manager / CSM Correctional Unit Manager (2021–2025)
GPS records attribute 100 deaths at Coastal State Prison during Mack's tenure as a unit-level supervisor, running from 2021 through December 2025. The overwhelming majority fall under cause category 6 (cause unspecified in available records); two deaths carry cause category 1 (illness): Ricky Chamblee, whose death certificate lists Acute Respiratory Failure with Hypoxia/DVT/COPD (January 18, 2025), and Lloyd Chapman, whose death certificate lists Acute Respiratory Failure (January 28, 2025). Three deaths are classified as apparent homicides per the AJC Georgia Prison Homicides Investigation: Kion Eugene Parks, 31, stabbed on September 14, 2021 — a lawsuit alleges five inmates stabbed Parks to death, according to the AJC; Rufus Ramon Lee, 27, stabbed in the chest on December 14, 2021 — a lawsuit by Lee's mother alleges the lock on his cell did not work, allowing assailants from other cells and dorms to reach him, per the AJC; and Salomon Andres Ramirez, 43, who died October 20, 2023 in what GDC classified as an apparent homicide, per the AJC. Ryan Chase Archer, 25, was stabbed to death on December 13, 2023 — GPS records show he was due for release in 2024. Raymond Littles, 49, died April 16, 2024 in an incident GPS records classify as a homicide, with another prisoner disciplined. Ages among the 100 decedents ranged from 25 to 93; several were in their 20s and 30s.
The facility's broader conditions during this period are documented by multiple outlets. A 2024 U.S. Department of Justice investigation found Georgia prisons, including Coastal State, are failing to protect inmates from violence, neglect, and unconstitutional conditions, concluding GDC violates the Eighth Amendment, per GPS records. A DOJ report cited in WTOC coverage also criticized Georgia prisons including Coastal State for overusing lockdowns and isolation, particularly on victims of sexual abuse. WTOC reported in February 2026 that workers and inmates described correctional officers allegedly beating inmates regularly, staff allegedly withholding food as punishment, lockdowns lasting seven to ten days without shower access, and crumbling infrastructure including black mold throughout housing units, rat and mice infestations, and frequent HVAC failures. GDC records obtained by WTOC show no correctional officers were disciplined for violence against inmates over a six-month period in 2025, despite employees describing such violence as common. WTOC also reported that a federal judge found GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver in failure to comply with court orders. A WALB report alleges a March 2020 assault at Coastal State was forwarded for investigation but no records of such an investigation exist, and the same individual later strangled a cellmate to death at another facility. A health inspection conducted by the Georgia Department of Public Health on April 23, 2026 — overlapping the final weeks of Mack's posting there — issued the facility a grade of 70, citing live roaches, a dead mouse floating in backed-up mop water, mold on kitchen ceiling tiles, improperly held food temperatures, and broken plumbing, per The Georgia Virtue; the facility was given until May 3 to correct the violations. WTOC obtained maintenance records showing over $5,000 spent on pest control at Coastal State between May and November 2025; GDC told WTOC it has no records related to mold remediation.
Georgia State Prison — Correctional Officer (2009)
Mack held a staff-tier Correctional Officer role at Georgia State Prison in 2009. No deaths are attributed to her individual tenure there in GPS records. The facility's broader history includes documented systemic failures: a 2024 DOJ investigation found the same constitutional violations at Georgia State Prison that had been identified 50 years earlier, per GPS records. Georgia State Prison closed abruptly in early 2022 amid a federal investigation into GDC conditions generally, per GPS records.
