Thompson, Lisa H
Status: active
This profile reflects positional accountability — this individual held the leadership roles shown during the dates shown, during which the listed deaths or lawsuits occurred. Inclusion does not constitute a legal finding of personal culpability for any specific incident.
Tenure Summary
Lisa H. Thompson has worked within the Georgia Department of Corrections since at least 2000, rising from line-level counselor roles to facility leadership. Her career spans Telfair State Prison (2000), Pulaski State Prison (2005), Wilcox State Prison (2009, as Chief Counselor), Bleckley Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center (Assistant Superintendent 2013; Superintendent 2018; Warden from 2024), and most recently Whitworth Women's Facility (Warden from January 16, 2026). GPS records show no deaths attributed to facilities during Thompson's specific leadership-tier tenures, and no lawsuits name her as a defendant. However, her staff-level postings at Telfair, Pulaski, and Wilcox place her inside three facilities that have since accumulated documented patterns of homicide, staffing collapse, and federal scrutiny.

What Happened on Their Watch
Telfair State Prison — Counselor (2000)
Thompson held a staff-tier counselor role at Telfair during 2000. No deaths are attributed to this posting in GPS records. The facility has since become one of GDC's most violent: GPS records and intel events document at least a dozen homicides between 2020 and 2025, including stabbings, strangulations, and blunt-force deaths. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Telfair was missing 76–79% of its essential correctional officer workforce in recent years, leaving as few as 32 officers for a facility requiring at least 153. A claim filed against the state, reported by the AJC, alleged that prisoner De'ahmoz Oshmic Floyd was stabbed to death on April 18, 2023, when no prison staff were present in the dorm. Solitary Watch reported allegations that in December 2010 — a decade after Thompson's posting — tactical officers rampaged through the facility, destroying personal property and severely beating at least six prisoners, and that prison administration shut off heat when daytime temperatures were in the 30s. A Telfair sergeant, Desiree Briley, was sentenced in 2023 to 18 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to helping a prisoner smuggle methamphetamine into the facility for at least two years, per the AJC. GPS relay intercepts from early 2026 flagged additional stabbing incidents and a lockdown at Telfair. None of these events overlap Thompson's 2000 tenure; they are documented here as facility context.
Pulaski State Prison — Counselor (2005)
Thompson served as a staff-tier counselor at Pulaski in 2005. No deaths are attributed to this posting. The AJC has reported allegations that prisoner Mollianne Fischer failed to receive adequate medical care at Pulaski, leaving her in a vegetative state, and that prisoner Bonnie Rocheleau died after developing pneumonia without adequate care — though the dates of those incidents are not specified in the structured records relative to Thompson's tenure. A DOJ investigation documented constitutional violations at Pulaski covering 2022–2023, per GPS records. In May 2024, Deputy Warden Alonzo L. McMillian was arrested and terminated after arrest warrants alleged he engaged in sexual contact with a prisoner on February 24–25, 2024, according to the AJC. A July 2023 disturbance involved 11 inmates using weapons including shanks, a crowbar, and locks. GPS records also document a report of gang extortion targeting an inmate's family at Pulaski. None of these events fall within Thompson's 2005 posting.
Wilcox State Prison — Chief Counselor (2009)
Thompson held a specialty-lead role at Wilcox in 2009. No deaths are attributed to this posting. GPS records document multiple homicides at Wilcox in subsequent years: James Forest Williams, 43, died October 3, 2022, from blunt and sharp force injuries; Arthur Williams, 55, died July 18, 2024; and Mariol Juante Rawls, 41, died August 27, 2024, in an incident involving nine offenders and a homemade weapon. According to the AJC, a family member alleged that a prisoner told his family that guards at Wilcox were tied to gangs, with gang members signing off on guard actions. A gang fight in early 2025 sent nine inmates to the hospital with stab wounds, per GPS records. The DOJ issued a report on gang-run Georgia prisons documenting regular violence and sexual assault, per the AJC. In the first half of 2025 alone, GDC was investigating 42 deaths system-wide as possible homicides. None of these events fall within Thompson's 2009 posting.
Bleckley Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center — Assistant Superintendent (2013); Superintendent (2018); Warden (2024–present)
Thompson has held three successive leadership roles at Bleckley, a probation substance abuse treatment center, most recently as Warden from 2024 to the present. GPS records show no deaths attributed to Bleckley during any of her tenures there, and no lawsuits name her in connection with this facility.
Whitworth Women's Facility — Warden (January 16, 2026–present)
Thompson assumed the Warden role at Whitworth Women's Facility on January 16, 2026. GPS records show no deaths attributed to this facility during her tenure to date.
